Deze norm beschrijft een methode voor de bepaling van de pH van water met de glaselektrode. De norm is van toepassing op alle soorten water met een pH tussen 4,0 en 9,5 binnen een temperatuurtraject van 0 tot 50 graad C. Bij monsters met geringe ionensterkte en/of buffercapaciteit moeten bijzondere voorzorgen in acht worden genomen. Aanwijzingen worden gegeven voor minder nauwkeurige metingen beneden pH = 4,0 en boven pH = 9,5 bij temperaturen tot 100 graad C en in colloidale oplossingen en suspensies.
